Tips for trips

Ghotic road

It is the first touristic reconnaissance road in Slovakia. In a continuous circuit  it represents the most interesting and the rarest treasure of Spiš and Gemer. With its significance it exceeds the horizon of the region and as well Slovakia and it is an inseparable part of the European cultural heritage. The original 276km long circuit marked in 1998 has been recently extended by the Gemer –rimavský , Spišský – tatranský and Spišský – pieninský circuits. They go through other interesting recesses of Spiš and Gemer. To these treaures belong the castles Spišký castle, Krásna Hôrka castle, Muráň castle, the preserved historical centres of towns(Levoča, Kežmarok, Rožňava, Rimavská Sobota and others), museums and cathedrals as well country churches with unique medieval frescos, burgher and craftsman houses and romantic stone bridges. The attractiveness  of the ghotic road is increased by a beautiful natural horizon  it leads through. They are mainly the national parks Slovak Paradise, Muránska plateau and Pieniny and as well the protected landscape Slovak Karst in Gemer, its caves were included in the list of World natural and cultural heritage UNESCO.

Krásna Hôrka

It is one of the most preserved  medieval castles of Slovakia. The family of Mariássy started to build it and then it was owned by the Bebek family and later Andrássy family. They rebuilt it into a anti-Turks fortress. We can admire there a collection of paintings, furniture, period clothes and weapons. You can connect the sightseeing tour with visiting the Gallery of Andrássy family in Krásnohorské Podhradie and the mausoleum of Andrássy family  in Art Noveau style in the vicinity.

Manor house Betliar

The two-storey representative manor house belongs to the most beautiful ones in Slovakia. It was built around 1710 for the counts of Andrássy from krásna Hôrka. The interiors of the manor house are originally furnished with rich collections of furniture, porcelain, paintings and hunting trophies. After the last reconstruction in 1944 the manor house obtained a prestigious award EUROPA NOSTRA for historic restoration. In the surrounding of the manor house is an extensive natural park with rare wood, sculptures and fountains.

Cave Domica

It is located in the south-west edge  of Silická Plateau, in the territory of the Protected landscape reserve Slovak Karst, near the state borders with Hungary. The lenght of the cave is 5080m and it forms a united  genetical whole with the cave Baradla in the Hungarian Republic. From the rich flowstone fills are typical the peaks, cascade pools, onion-shaped stalactites and pagoda-like stalagmites. The old Domica it was well-known ever before and it has been made accessible since 1932, including the underground cruise. The parts which are accessible nowadays measure 1315m and from that 140m is the cruise.

Aragonite Cave

It is situated in the Ochtinský kryptokarst in the Revúcka higlands, Rožňava county.

It is a unique  natural phenomenon of the underground karst which atrracts the attention with its richness and diversity of the aragonite fills and as well with its peculiar genesis of  natural underground premises. The rich aragonite fill was created during specific hydro-chemical and climatic conditions in the closed underground areas. It occurs in liver, spinelike  and spiral forms. The cave was accidentally discovered in 1954 when a geological exploratory tunnel was dug. For the public 230m  have been accessible since 1972.

Gombasecká cave

At the western foot of Silická Plateau in the Slovak Karst, in the canyon of the Slaná between Rožňava and Plešivec lies the Gombasek cave. The lenght of the cave is 1525 m. It stands out with its unique thin sinter straws, which are up to 3 metres long.  There occur as well other types of stalactites, stalagmites and other sinter  overflows and barks. The cave was discovered in 1951 and it has been accessible  since 1955 in the lenght of 285m. In 1968 it was the first cave in Slovakia which started to be used for speleotherapy.
